A Woman Displays Symptoms Of Depression And Alcohol Addiction, Gets Inspired And Motivated About Scheduling An Appointment To See Her Physician About Her Excessive And Hazardous Drinking, Begins To Address Her Anger, Stress, And Time Management Problems, And Increase Her Goal Setting Skills

Teresa was a thirty-nine-year-old loan officer who realized that she had a drinking problem. For example, within the past six months she has experienced the need to have a few drinks before going to work, seven weeks ago she failed to pass a random urine alcohol test at her place of employment, six weeks ago she got pulled over by the state highway patrol for “driving under the influence”, and finally, for the last four months she has started to fail to remember what she does and says when she goes out drinking.

Similar to multitudes of other drinkers, Teresa’s experiences with alcohol began slowly and continued at this pace for quite some time due to the fact from time to time she engaged in occasional social drinking. In reality, for almost seven months, every time she went out with her buddies to drink, she made sure to drink in a responsible manner. Something about her drinking situation, nevertheless, seemed to completely change when she got divorced from her husband.

So She Can Overcome the Divorce of Her Husband In a less Painful manner, Teresa Determined That She Will Begin Hanging Around More Repeatedly With Some of Her Friends Who Love to Drink and Have Fun

Teresa got extremely sad about the breakup with her husband, and as a way to refrain from obsessing about her dismal emotions she came to a decision that she would start hanging out more often with some of her buddies who love to ”get down” and drink.

Quite candidly, Teresa figured that having fun nearly every day by getting a "buzz" by drinking with her pals would help her come to terms with the divorce of her husband more painlessly.

Stress, Anger, and Time Management Difficulties

Teresa also reasoned that getting "mellow" and drinking with her friends would help her steer clear of her stress, time, and anger management issues.

Teresa’s Drinking Increases Greatly the More Routinely She Goes to Private Parties, Sporting Events, Happy Hours, Family Get-Togethers, and Dinner Dates With Her Buddies

It didn’t take too long, nonetheless, before her drinking escalated considerably the more frequently she went to and drank at family get-togethers, private parties, dinner dates, happy hours, and sporting events with her pals. Furthermore, the fact that her drinking buddies were all younger than she was and therefore able to drink more frequently and harder was one of the reasons why she didn’t concentrate more on her increased drinking. In brief, she was drinking and having a ton of fun just like everybody else in her group of friends without giving much thought to the negative effects of her abusive and excessive drinking.

Yet in the recesses of her mind she knew that she more likely than not needed alcohol rehab but steered clear of the thought as much as humanly possible.

Teresa Gets a Physical, Discloses the Facts About Her Abusive and Hazardous Drinking to Her Healthcare Practitioner, and Owns up to the Facts About Her Constant Negativity

One morning during her twelve month physical examination, her physician asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to lie to her healthcare professional, Teresa acknowledged that she often drinks more than she should. If truth be told, she stated that she routinely drinks in an excessive and abusive manner. Then Teresa told her healthcare practitioner about her dejection. More precisely, she mentioned that ruined relationships more often than not generated a negative cycle of events characterized by increased drinking which further resulted in more negative feelings that, in turn, led to more drinking. And this is precisely what took place when her husband and she got divorced three years ago.

When her healthcare practitioner heard this, he informed Teresa that according to various alcoholism facts and statistics on alcoholism he was reviewing, alcoholism and depression many times come about in the same person. He then informed her that some of the alcohol statistics, facts, and research investigations he has been looking into also underscore the fact that people who drink irresponsibly and who also go through depression need to get treatment for both medical conditions.

Teresa’s Doctor Makes an Appointment for a Psychological Assessment and For an Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction Appraisal

Teresa’s doctor then told her the following: “I am not trying to make a spur-of-the-moment analysis, but with your medical situation we may be working with two separate concerns. As a result, I think we should schedule an appointment for you to get an alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency assessment from my partner, Dr. Warner, who is an alcohol dependency specialist. Whether your drinking circumstance is more linked to alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction is unknown at this time, but I believe that further evaluation is reasonable. Then I believe we probably should schedule an appointment for you to get a psychological evaluation from another one of my partners, Dr. Reyes, who is a clinical psychologist. I want to get a deeper understanding about your sadness and see how much your drinking and depression are intertwined.” Teresa displayed her agreement with her physician’s line of attack and thanked him for his time and assistance.

Teresa Confronts Her Anger, Stress, and Time Management Difficulties

In truth, Teresa now experienced a sense of personal self esteem and happiness because she finally got inspired to do something positive about her excessive drinking and her depression. Not only this, but Teresa also realized that after alcohol rehab she would be better able to deal with her anger, time, and stress management difficulties and augment her goal setting skills.  Now all she had to do was to try to decrease her drinking and get ready for her appointments.
