Some Important Facts about Spending Time In Bradford

The city of Bradford is situated in West Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. Built in the foothills of the Pennine mountain range the city of Bradford was perfectly placed to bloom during the period known as the industrial revolution. In actual fact, during the nineteenth century, Bradford was at the very forefront of the Industrial revolution and it quickly became a major international textile manufacturing centre, specialising in wool and Bradford gained the nickname of the world's wool capital. As a result of the ample raw materials of iron ore, soft water and coal the town experienced rapid expansion in its manufacturing base and an equally quick population growth. Regrettably the city's textile industry fell into decline in the mid 20th century. Since then Bradford has emerged as   a popular short city break destination with a number of guest houses providing bed and breakfast in Bradford.

Bradford's industrial heritage has left us with a legacy of fine examples of Victorian constructions, which include; the Venetian Gothic Wool Exchange, St. George's Hall, old mills and the City Hall with it's gothic extension at the back. The most ancient construction to be discovered in the city is the Cathedral, which can be dated back to medieval times, and was, for the greater time, a small parish church. Unfortunately few buildings of this time survive, excluding Bolling Hall. Bolling Hall is now home to a museum, situated roughly 1m from the Bradford city centre. Situated in a quiet and leafy garden, the museum takes people on a fascinating journey, to a time about 500 years ago, through the lives of the families who could once refer to Bolling Hall as home.

Bradford is home to the National Media Museum, which is one of the most popular museums found outside the nation's capital city, London. At one time named the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, the amazing museum is free to enter which is ideal for visitors of all ages. The museum contains a total of three cinemas, one of which is the finest in England. You are able to discover television's past, present and future in Experience TV, relive your favourite television moments in TV Heaven, muck about with lenses, colour and light in the Magic Factory and experience the exciting world of animation and also watch an actual animator working in the Animation Gallery.
